Show Your RV Some Love this Summer

With July in full swing, it is a great time to explore the roads or simply go camping. RV travel is an excellent and safer way to explore the open land of Canada. Whether you own or rent an RV, there are some maintenance tips you should know and prepare for before hitting the road.

Top 5 RV Maintenance Tips

1) Inspect Seals & Seams

It would help if you were to examine your RV's roof for leaks every several months. Water leaks can occur through any open seams in your roof's edges, vents, skylights, or AC unit. You don't want to embark on your trip just for it to be ruined by a flooded RV.

2) Change the Oil

Unlike a car that you regularly maintain every 3,000-5,000 miles, an RV tends to endure more stress on its engine. It would be best if you did oil changes on a seasonal basis to make sure that everything is lubricated and running at its best. For RVs, it's advised that you should change your oil every 3,000-4,000 miles or at least once every year. A premium synthetic motor oil is highly recommended for RV maintenance to ensure maximum wear protection and service life. If you neglect to change the oil, your RV will receive excessive wear and tear on its engine.

3) Replace the Filters

Like your car, you need to change the air, fuel, coolant, and hydraulic filters in your RV regularly. While you are getting the oil change for the RV, ask your mechanic to inspect your filters. You can avoid potential mishaps.

4) Check Your Battery

The last thing you want to happen on your trip is a dead RV battery. The goal for an RV's battery is to do your best to keep it fully charged at all times. If your battery dies, bring a set of jumper cables and a portable battery on the trip.

5) Give the RV a Good Wash

The last thing you should do before (and after) hitting the roads is to give your RV a good wash. The vehicle has probably been sat and stored for an extended period of time. You'll be confidently cruising around with a shiny-looking RV!
